AAS undergoes the re-accreditation process of IB & MSA-CESS - Aquinas American School

Dear AAS community,

I am proud to announce that at Aquinas the 2020/2021 school year will be a time to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses, to reflect on the conclusions drawn, and ultimately to design plans for growth and improvement as we go through two re-accreditation efforts by the International organizations/associations we are currently certified by.

After a very successful implementation and five years of constant growth and improvements, it is time to undergo the Five Year Evaluation of the Diploma Program by the IB Organization https://www.ibo.org/. Ms. Ana Curbera, our High School Principal and IB Coordinator will be taking on this process for the Diploma Program offered at the High School.  The process will conclude in the spring with a written report on the state and future of the DP Program at Aquinas.

In parallel, the whole school will be working on a self-study process for re-accreditation from The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) https://www.msa-cess.org/. The re-accreditation will first have us revisit the school’s core Mission and Beliefs, and evaluate the Profile of the Aquinas Graduate. Later, during the Self Study process, we will assess our school´s current reality against the 12 MSA Standards (on the school program, resources, and environment)  required by the Association for accreditation. You will find these attached to this letter. Finally, we will submit our Student Performance and Organizational Capacity Objectives for growth for the following 7 years. Ms. Caroline Caprio has been appointed Internal Coordinator for this effort that will take us first to a visit from an evaluation team from MSA in the Fall of 2021 and later on to a decision on our continued accreditation status in the spring of 2022.

In order to reach a successful assessment, we will be needing your perspective and participation. Please look out for a series of surveys we will be sending out to collect your comments and thoughts. You are also encouraged to volunteer if you feel you will be available to serve on any of the four Standards Evaluation Committees that will be formed to conduct the Self Study.  You will find the prospective dates for committee meetings attached to this email. Please contact Ms. Carpio at:  carpio@aquinasmadrid.es for information on what would be required in these positions.

In essence,  it is now time to see what we have done well, what can be improved and how we will grow together as a community.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours truly,

Antonio Arcones

Head of School
